Exploration to Machu Picchu

During this full-day exploration, we visit the famous historical sanctuary of Machu Picchu, one of the most amazing architectural examples of Inca culture and one of the Wonders of the World.

Our exploration to Machu Picchu is offered in two different options:

  • On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, it includes a hike of 1.5 km (0,9 miles) to the Sun Gate or Inti Punku, the ancient checkpoint to the citadel.
  • On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the exploration does not include the hike to the Sun Gate or Inti Punku.

Both options consider a guided tour of approximately three hours among the main archaeological remains.

The exploration must be coordinated in advance with our reservation team to be able to purchase the train tickets to Aguas Calientes and the entrance fee to Machu Picchu, which has limited daily spaces. During the high season, we suggest that you coordinate this exploration with at least 50 days in advance.

Altitude

The city of Cusco is located some 11,200 ft.a.s.l. (3,400 m.a.s.l. ), while Explora in the Sacred Valley is located at  9,514 f.a.s.l. (2,900 m.a.s.l). This altitude allows travelers to start their trip with a less intense acclimatizing process, which is particularly favorable after a long international trip.

All our explorations take place between 9,186 to 15,719 ft. a.s.l. (2,800 and 4,700 m.a.s.l. ); hence our guests must carry out an acclimatizing process allowing them to adjust gradually to the altitude. We recommend our guests to thoroughly follow the entire process in order to be able to choose explorations of increasing intensity and time length. Each exploration is selected together with the guide in charge and the rest of the group travelers. For the safety of our guests, each exploration will be subject to weather conditions.

Climate

Due to Cusco’s elevation and closeness to the Equator, a wide range of weathers are generated. However, two main seasons stand out, each of which has its unique attractions.

The dry season from April to October has plenty of sunlight and occasional night frosts, July being the coldest month with average temperatures of 49.5°F (9.7°C). The rainy season from November to March, on the other hand, has average temperatures of  55.9°F (13.3°C) and occasional medium intensity showers, all of them typical for the dynamic subtropical weather. Annual temperatures range from 32.4 °F (0.2 °C ) to 69.6 °F ( 20.9 °C ), but there can be temperatures close to 16°F (−8.9 °C ) and 86°F (30 °C ).

Tips

  • Because we are in remote areas, Wi-Fi access in rooms and common areas is limited.
  • The voltage in Sacred Valley is 220V.

Wi-fi and voltage

Tips are voluntary.

If you wish to leave any, you can do so at the hotel reception at the end of your stay. It will be distributed among all those who contributed to making your trip a unique experience. We suggest leaving USD 100 per day per room.
