The unseen corners of Chilean Patagonia

• Patagonia National Park is located along the breathtakingly scenic Carretera Austral,  the iconic road that runs 1,239 kilometers from Puerto Montt,  in the Lake District,  to Villa O’Higgins, traversing the amazing landscapes of Chilean Patagonia. 

• The landscapes you while exploring  this territory can leave you speechless and include thick forests, fjords, glaciers, canals, the Andes Mountains, spectacular turquoise colored rivers and lakes, among others, in an unspoiled, lightly explored natural environment, that opens itself up to you. 

• We offer over 30 explorations to get to know this territory in different modalities, such as hiking, overland van crossings, biking, self-guided tours, kayaking, high mountain outings and combinations, with difficulty levels ranging from basic to advanced. Each exploration will take us to different areas where wildlife like ñandus (Darwin’s Rhea), huemuls (endangered Andean Deer), pumas and Austral woodpeckers live, among others. You will also be able to spot herds of guanacos and Andean condors flying in the sky overhead as you discover every corner. 

• This park is the legacy of the late Douglas and Kristine Tompkins, who remain present through their foundation Rewilding Chile, which seeks to conserve this territory.  Explora currently supports the National Chilean Forestry Corporation (CONAF), Rewilding Chile (formerly the Tompkins Conservation Foundation) and different organizations to protect the flora and fauna of the Patagonia National Park and thus create intitaives that work towards sustainable tourism and protection of land and wildlife. 

• Part of the sales made in our lodge go to the CONAF and other organizations, which work together to meet the goal of achieving responsible tourism.

• The Balmaceda Airport, about 1,400 kilometers from Santiago, is the closest to our lodge. From there, you have two ways to reach Explora in the Patagonia National Park: by land, in a van trip lasting about 7 hours, or by air, on a charter flight lasting about 1 hour. The latter option flies over the most iconic places in this territory, such as the Lake General Carrera.
