Five reasons to visit Torres del Paine National Park in springtime
Spring begins in September in the southern hemisphere. But it is not until the first days of October that the weather starts to change in the southernmost tip of the planet. Here is a list of five reasons why you can’t miss Patagonia in this time of the year.
1. Longer daytime
Spring comes hand in hand with increased sunlight. This makes flowers start blooming in the Park, slowly filling it with colors. This phenomenon also means more daytime to explore the Torres del Paine National Park in depth.
2. The wind reaches Patagonia
Incredibly, there’s an advantage to the arrival of the wind to Patagonia. Particularly for photo enthusiasts and those who appreciate sunsets as they appear in movies. The wind draws pictures with the clouds every morning and evening, becoming a sight worth seeing for Park visitors.
3. Better chances of spotting a puma
Puma watching has become one of the main tourist attractions at Torres del Paine National Park. The Park has a population of at least 50 individuals, one of the largest concentrations in the world. The best moment to spot one is between October and November. In this time of the year, guanacos give birth to their young –called chulengos– and pumas come out to hunt them.
4. Birds fly out to explore
Just like puma spotting increases in this time of the year, watching birds is also easier as they return to the area together with the spring. You can spot a wide variety of birds in their natural habitat.
